Public Wooing: Fearless or Shameless?

Last week on the campus of South China Agricultural University, a boy staged a very public wooing of his dream girl in a way I’ve never seen before.

With a bouquet of roses in hand, the desperate college boy asked his friends to set some striking banners saying “Silly girl, I miss you so much. I can’t live without you!” and “Would you please come back to me?” under the girls’ dorm. Hmm… it seems the boy was trying to save a very serious relationship.

The dramatic moment comes somewhere near 4:10 in the video when a school guard tries to stop this fevered gathering. Meanwhile, the boy went totally crazy crying, “I won’t leave with so many people helping me! I won’t leave!”

Youku users are debating on the video page. While a few people are commenting along lines of “I respect his courage”, most users criticize the lovelorn boy’s behavior as a pathetic farce: “Vanity and romance are different”, “WTF can people learn from this video? It’s doomed to failure”, and “The saddest truth about today’s college students is that they don’t have the concepts of moral and shame”.

Couldn’t he have just held a boom-box overhead and played Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”?

P.S. Here’s another public wooing scene shot in Nankai University in Tianjin. With fireworks and heart-shaped candles, it’s much more romantic. Unfortunately, no university security personnel show up in the video.
